Sheldon Johnson Sheldon's passion for painting over shadowed the other visual art fields such as working in wax for bronze figurative pieces. An early love for Impressionism soon moved to Expressionism and Cubism inspired works of both architecture and nature. In 2001, after viewing the Ellsworth Kelly/Matisse plant drawing exhibit at the St. Louis Art Museum, he began painting large scale abstract plant forms that feature bright colors & motion. Though always referring to nature, the pieces have become as abstract as Joan Mitchell's. The abstract expressionist influence has dominated his recent works in 2004 & 2005.
